- Popularity of short-distance travel and entertainment services remains high… Strong trend toward tech adoption and responsible travel in the industry
After analysis of the largest travel big data in Korea, global travel platform Yanolja announced the travel trends of 2023: 'R.E.S.T.A.R.T'.
◉ Revitalization: With many countries transitioning COVID-19 from being a pandemic to an endemic, we expect to see accelerated growth in the travel industry. Yanolja is no exception; last year, the number of reservations through Yanolja increased by 74.4% compared to 2019, far exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
◉ Entertainment: Last year, Yanolja exhibition transaction volume (GMV) increased by 252% YoY, while Interpark concert GMV grew by 159%. Given the high popularity of K-content around the world, we expect entertainment services to continue to play an important role in attracting inbound customers throughout this year.
◉ Short-distance Travel: The popularity of short-distance travel is expected to continue due to generally rising travel costs and the effects of the global economic downturn.
◉ Technology: We have seen tech adoption in the travel industry rapidly expand as the pandemic period comes to an end. The number of licenses sold by Yanolja Cloud increased by 86% last year to exceed 80,000.
◉ Abroad: We expect overseas travel to maintain its popularity. Last year, Yanolja's overseas accommodation bookings increased by 3641% compared to 2021, and the number of Interpark flight and tour package reservations increased by 1171% and 2064%, respectively.
◉ Responsible Travel: We believe the growing demand for travel and revitalization of the travel industry will be an opportunity for responsible travel initiatives, including reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable travel.
◉ Tourism Economy: The travel industry will play a big role in revitalizing the domestic economy as travelers stay, spend, and contribute to the local economy of the areas they visit.
Yanolja expects the travel industry to build on its success of having overcome the pandemic crisis and become the game-changer that revitalizes the domestic economy.
